Different Methods of Watching TV for Free or at Low Cost – September 5th, 2017

Better Way to Connect TV is happy to introduce you to different methods of watching TV that eliminate the cable or satellite subscription portion of your bill.  We highly recommend that if you live in an area with good over the air “OTA” signal to have an antenna installed by our expert technicians.  OTA consumers in good signal areas can watch local broadcasts free of monthly payments.  A favorite way that many of our customers and our family watch all local broadcasts for free is through an HDTV antenna.  For those of us who remember, using a TV antenna is not a new method of watching TV, they have been around for a very long time.  Today, the OTA signal being broadcast and the antennas being manufactured are excellent and provide a TV viewing experience that surpass the quality of cable and satellite television.  If you have concerns about being able to record OTA channels, don’t worry, there are several recording devices “DVR’s” on the market that allow recording of all OTA content.  We provide a list on our website of recommended DVR’s and streaming devices.

The HDTV antenna allows viewing of your local channels for free. However, if you would like to pair your local channels with other content, a streaming device such as Roku or Apple TV can be used to watch Netflix, Hulu, and lots of other content for minimal cost depending on your selection of services.  In addition, channels such as HBO, Showtime, and Starz that were previously only available through cable or satellite companies are now available through applications on a streaming device for a low monthly fee.  In addition, there are now several low-cost streaming channel packages available through companies such as Sling, Direct TV Now, and PlayStation Vue for those channels that were previously only offered through cable and satellite companies.  Start watching TV without monthly fees with an HDTV antenna or at a lower cost if coupled with streaming services.  Please schedule an appointment or request further information through our website.  We can help you figure out the cheapest methods of watching the shows you love without spending a monthly amount equal to most people’s car payment to do it.

A couple of pointers for watching TV on your PC – February 2015

I really enjoy watching my favorite shows on my PC, but there are a few things I had to do to get me to the point of where my family enjoys watching TV on the PC. Now my wife is the litmus test that I use to judge whether or not something is easy or not. I know that if I add some new method in which to watch her favorite show and she starts to complain, well that new method has failed and needs to be removed and replaced with something easier. I have friends and family that ask me all the time where to go on the internet and do I have some type of special software to watch TV on the PC. The answer is no. I do not have any special type of software and I do not have any one place to watch TV shows that I like. When friends and family ask those types of questions I can already see the frustration building up. So I thought I would write this blog in hopes to help them and you out.

We are creatures of habit, we want things simple and we want them now. That is the power that the cable company has over us. That is the reason they have been able to get away with highway robbery for so many years. Hey I understand, with all the work we have to do in a given day the last thing you want to do is fight with a computer when you have just set down in front of your TV to watch your favorite show. These tips that I am about to provide will make things a little easier. Let me make a check list. That will probably make more sense. Oh yeah, I need to make this disclaimer first. The things that I am about to list are just suggestions. They all are things that I have tried myself and have personal experience with. I do not get paid in any way to advertise the software and websites that may be suggested in the list below. I will list a tip and then try to explain a little bit about why I did them.

Steps to take to enjoy Television on the PC.

Step 1: You want to use a newer PC.

Reason: Newer PCs have more ram to start with. More ram is a very nice thing. Now you can use older PCs but I have found you typically have to upgrade the hard disk drive and the ram. The newer PCs are more powerful already and most of them are geared for watching TV on the PC.

Step 2: Now that you have chosen which PC to use leave it alone.

Reason: You don’t want to have to unplug your PC from your television all the time. Your PC has to remember setting that it needs to link with your TV. If you disconnect it on a day to day basis those setting could get corrupt. That is the fastest way to start having display problems.

Step 3: You need a good antivirus.

Reason: This is kind of a tricky subject. I will just say this. Stick with the free versions for antivirus software. Free antivirus software companies have come a long way in the last couple of years. They have been found to do a better job of protecting your files and private information, even better than the paid subscription services. They don’t use a lot of CPU power. They just run in the back ground and you never know they are there. The paid services use scare tactics to keep you paying for services that you don’t even use. The one that I am using is Avast antivirus software. They have an outstanding free version that I have been using for the past couple of years and I have never had any virus or any problems what so ever. It does automatic updates for you in the background, so all you have to do is download and forget about it. There are many more services, so please do some discovery about these products and please read reviews. See what others are saying about these products before you download.

Step 4: Download a good malware software

Reason: I guess you might think this is a little redundant, but here is a very good YouTube video that explains it very well.  http://youtu.be/ODuH6mtxuo8

I have multiple software running on my PC and I have never ran into a problem using them at the same time. The ones I use are Malwarebytes and Super AntiSpyWare. I have found them to work hand in hand with one another. Again these are suggestions so if you have or want to use others that’s okay as well.

Step 5: Keep things open and Cool

Reason: When you are using your PC to watch your favorite television show, it is putting a lot of stress on the CPU and GPU. This tends to run the inner components really hot. If you are using a laptop PC my advice would be to invest in a really good cooling pad for laptop PCs. Check my product page and there you will find a list of top selling cooling pads for PC. If you are using a desktop PC, you want to put it in a well ventilated location so it can take in lots of fresh air. Remember the more space you can provide for your PC the better it can do its job at displaying that HD content.

Step 6: Buy a wireless keyboard for your PC

Reason: Imagine yourself having to stand up in front of your PC or family and friends trying to type your favorite website in the address bar. Better yet, think how uncomfortable it would be having to get up and sit back down for every show. Exactly, it would be worse than going to the gym! So I have done the work for you. Check my product page and there you will find a list top selling wireless keyboards. I am using the Logitech k400. It works very well and my family enjoys using it too.

These are just a few things that will greatly improve your watching experience. If there was something that you have any questions about please don’t hesitate to contact me at www.betterwaytoconnecttv.com. I would be more than happy to help you out and answer any question.

Why I started my Business – September 2014

I started Better Way to Connect TV because I was frustrated with my cable company.  I was tired of the cable packages that they offered.  It was either I was paying too much for too many channels that I did not want and never watched, or, they just did not offer the channels that I did want with the cheaper packages.   I am a nerd and a techy and I knew that there was a better way of enjoying the shows that I wanted to watch without having to pay through the teeth to get them.  Through my research on this topic, I came across a different way to watch television.  I did this by cancelling my cable television service which I know sounds crazy.  However, there are so many different options that you can choose when you cancel the cable. This passion evolved to pair with home theater services to form Better Way to Connect TV.
